How Much Does a Fence Cost in San Antonio?
An honest guide to what drives fence pricing in San Antonio, with published local price ranges cited so you can budget before you call.

It Depends on Six Things
The total cost of a fence comes down to how much fence you need, what it is made of, how it is built, how many gates it has, what has to come out first, and what the ground is like. The sections below explain each factor so you can understand any estimate you receive, from us or anyone else.
What Moves the Price
1. Linear footage and layout
Fences are priced mainly by the linear foot. Corners, short runs, and changes in direction add posts and labor.
2. Picket material: pine vs. cedar
Pressure-treated pine is the budget option. Cedar costs more but naturally resists rot and insects and warps less.
3. Style
Side-by-side pickets use the least material. Board-on-board overlaps pickets for full privacy and uses more wood. Cap and trim, horizontal slats, and shadowbox designs add labor and material.
4. Posts
Pressure-treated wood posts cost less; galvanized steel posts cost more but don’t rot and resist clay movement.
5. Gates
Each walk gate or double drive gate adds framing, hardware, and labor. Wider gates need heavier framing to prevent sag. See gate installation.
6. Removal and site conditions
Tear-out and haul-off of an old fence, digging through rock or caliche, slopes that need stepped sections, tree roots, and tight access all add labor.
7. Finish
Staining and sealing protects the wood and adds to the price. See staining and sealing.
What Other San Antonio Fence Companies Publish
We don’t publish a flat price, but some San Antonio-area companies do. These figures are other companies’ published prices, as listed on their websites when we checked on October 31, 2026. They are not a quote from You Picket Fence Co., and they can change at any time.
| Item | Published price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 6-ft wood privacy fence, wood posts | $33 per linear foot | Alamo Decks & Fence |
| 6-ft wood privacy fence, galvanized posts | $35 per linear foot | Alamo Decks & Fence |
| Wood walk gate | $450 each | Alamo Decks & Fence |
| Pressure-treated pine, side-by-side | Starting at $27 per foot | San Antonio Fence Company |
| Cedar board-on-board privacy | Starting at $35 per foot | San Antonio Fence Company |
| Initial stain or seal on cedar | Add $3–$5 per foot | San Antonio Fence Company |
Example math, not a quote: at a published rate of $33 per foot, a 150-foot backyard run would be about $4,950 before gates, removal, upgrades, or difficult ground. Your actual price depends on the factors above.
Fence Financing
If you would rather spread out the cost, every estimate we write includes a Wisetack financing option. Wisetack is a pay-over-time option for home services. Afterpay, which lets you split a purchase into installments, is also available as a separate payment option. Each provider decides approval, rates, and terms; we don’t set them and can’t promise approval. Learn how fence financing works.
Comparing quotes? Ask each company what its warranty covers. Full fence replacements from us include a 1-year craftsmanship warranty. If low maintenance matters more than upfront cost, see our composite fencing page.
How to Compare Fence Estimates
- Make sure every quote has the same footage, height, picket type, and style.
- Ask how deep posts are set and whether they are concreted. We set posts 24–36 inches deep in concrete.
- Ask how many rails each section has. Our standard privacy fences use three 2×4 rails.
- Check whether tear-out, haul-off, gates, and permits are included.
- Ask what the workmanship warranty covers and for how long. Ours is 1 year on full fence replacements.
FENCE COST FAQ
Why don’t you list a flat price per foot?
Two fences with the same footage can cost very different amounts because of rock, slopes, gates, removal, and material choices. We measure first so the number you get is the number you pay.
Is cedar worth the extra cost?
Cedar resists rot and insects and stays straighter than pine, so it often lasts longer and looks better with less upkeep. Pine is a good value if budget comes first and you plan to stain it.
Are steel posts worth it?
Galvanized steel posts don’t rot at the ground line and resist clay soil movement. They cost more up front but often extend the life of the fence.
Does a written estimate cost anything?
